CWG medal tally 2010, India second best with 31 medals, Osayemi to face suspension for drug usages

New Delhi: Nigerian sprinter Oludamola Osayemi will lose her 100m gold medal as she is tested positive in drugs test. Osayemi may also be punished with a suspension after final report of drug tests are verified by the Commonwealth Games Federation. Osayemi was tested positive for the stimulant methylhexaneamine.

CGF is to take severe actions against the sprinter for taking in stimulant drugs. But according to reports, she explained to the authority that she did not take drugs willingly, instead it might have entered into the body while receiving medication for a toothache.

Meanwhile, CGF president Mike Fennell is very strict against drug tests proved positive. “Any positive test, whether it’s in a high profile event or not, is something that is very much regretted. We all strive for clean games, clean sport and clean competition,” Fennell said.

Fennel added that the authority keeps much vigilance to catch stop such events. “One does not know what sort of damage will accrue because of this particular test. We just want to let everyone know we are very vigilant,” he added.

Commonwealth Games officials have laid comprehensive methods for drug testing. Lalit Bhanot, secretary general of the Games Organizing Committee said that very tight drug tests are held to discover athletes using drugs.

“We want dope-free games,” Bhanot said. “That is why 1500 tests are being conducted. If someone is caught, action will be taken as per the rules. At the same time it is a message to everyone that no one can escape [the testers],” he added.
