Tight security cover during India-Australia ODI at Kochi

Tight security cover will be in place for the Oct 17 one day cricket match between India and Australia at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium here, a top police official said today.The players would be provided 'Z' category security,Kochi City police commissioner, Manoj Abraham, told reporters here.Police personnel, including Commandos and Anti Sabotage team, will be deployed,he said.The high security scheme had been worked out against the backdrop of the bomb blast at the KSCA stadium in Bangalore during an IPL match in April this year in which 11 people were injured.At least 38 surveillance cameras have been installed at all entry points, galleries and the stadium can be monitored from the police control room.The spectators, who would be allowed entry only after thorough security check, would be continously under the surveillance of security cameras,he said.About 2500 policemen, 100 Kerala commandos, 300 private security guards and 300 NCC cadets would be deployed at the stadium to ensure that there are no security hiccups.During the practice sesssions of the two teams on Oct 15 and 16, the same precautions would be taken, Abraham said.Police has tied up with the Indian navy for providing helicopter service in case of an emergency during the match. A helipad is also been readied at the stadium grounds.Fire force personnel would also be on duty at the stadium on the match day.No metal objects and materials would be allowed inside and spectators have been asked not to carry even umbrellas and use raincoats in case the weather plays spoilsport.The stadium has been divided into 24 sectors and each sector would be under the control of a DYSP.
