New Delhi: 1.2 billion Indians are owed to their poster girl Siana Nehwal for showcasing the world that India has hundred and one percent right to host and win a mega games event. Winning gold in badminton Saina ensured the second spot for India in the final day of nineteenth Common wealth games. With 38 gold medals in kitty the hosts outpaced England in the medal tally.
After a neck to neck fight in badminton court Indian players won yellow medals where English stars lost every event. Whole of India watched the breathtaking match between Saina and Wong Me Chu to witness the record medal haul of the country. And finally India burst into jubilation when Nehwal hit her fist to the sky signaling the total gain of the country.
England fell short of India with 37 yellow medals while Australia remained at the top with 74 gold medals. With 59 silver and 45 bronze medals England had every chance to beat India at the second spot on the final day of Games. India had just 27 silver and 36 bronze medals in the table.
Indians would be thankful to Malaysian players who defended English people in badminton court. While England lost singles and doubles finals to Malaysia Saina Nehwal beat Malaysian player in her final.
Earlier, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Machimanda won the women's doubles badminton title to make Indian total equal to England’s 37 golds. However, India was desperately thrashed by Australia in much anticipated Hockey final losing for 8-0.
